The government should subsidize electric cars since they have a very low carbon footprint. Subsidizing will convince the masses of making the investment of buying this type of vehicles.
Subvention of individual electric cars is not a long term strategy: the battery manufacturing is polluting, the batteries are not fully recyclable, depending on the energy you use to charge your battery you actually have an outsourced carbon footprint. Public money should not subsidize a luxury/comfort/polluting choice. I'd rather suggest better public transports, safe biking and pedestrian infrastructure.
